Making the Godrej Aer Commercial
Smell has the unique power to transport you. One moment you are standing in your bathroom, and with the right scent, you can feel the breeze of a tropical paradise. That was the core concept behind our commercial film for Godrej Aer Power Pocket.
At FireDrum Studios, we love projects that let us experiment with new tools. As a team of artists and storytellers based in Dhaka, we approached this brief with a mix of traditional 3D pipelines and emerging tech to create something fun, fresh, and visually engaging.
The Objective: Visualizing Freshness
The brief was simple but imaginative: showcase the transformative power of the Godrej Aer Power Pocket. The story required inanimate objects—specifically a toilet and a showerhead—to react to the scent and be mentally whisked away to a sunny beach.
Our challenge was to give these bathroom fixtures personality without deforming them too much, effectively grounding them in reality while selling the fantasy.
Content Strategy: A Hybrid Workflow
To deliver a polished look on a tight timeline, we decided to split the visual approaches. The bathroom needed to look photo-realistic to establish the setting, while the beach scenes required a specific dreamlike quality.
We opted for Blender to handle the hard-surface modeling and interior rendering, while leveraging AI video generation for the beach backgrounds. This hybrid workflow allowed us to focus our manual efforts on the lighting and character charm while using AI to handle the environmental textures of the ocean and sand.
Technical Execution
1. Building the Interior in Blender
We started by modeling a modern, stylish bathroom interior in Blender. As seen in the project stills, lighting was the key to setting the mood. We used volumetric lighting and particle simulations to visualize the "scent" as magical, floating teal orbs. The goal was to make the clean white ceramics pop against the moodier green walls, creating a premium look for the product placement.
2. Audio-Driven Character Animation
Making a showerhead express emotion is a unique hurdle. We used the nozzle patterns to create a surprised face and placed toilet paper rolls on the tank to serve as eyes for the commode.
For the movement, we avoided traditional frame-by-frame lip-syncing. Instead, our post-production team in After Effects utilized a waveform-to-keyframe technique. By converting the voiceover audio amplitude into animation data, we drove the scale and micro-motions of the characters. This created a reactive, rhythmic animation style that felt organic to the sound design.
3. Compositing with AI
For the vacation sequences, we wanted more than just a static photo. We generated background plates using AI video tools to capture realistic water movement and shifting clouds.
We then took our 3D rendered characters—relaxing on a beach chair under an umbrella—and composited them onto these AI plates using After Effects. Matching the sharp, calculated lighting of a 3D render with the soft, natural light of an AI video required careful color correction and light wrapping, ensuring the objects truly felt part of the environment.
The Results
The final commercial is a vibrant, humorous piece that communicates the product’s promise instantly. It was a rewarding project for our team, proving that blending new AI tech with standard VFX pipelines can yield great results efficiently.
Whether it’s a complex simulation or a quirky character piece, we love solving these visual puzzles. It’s just another day at the office for our creative family here in Bangladesh.
