Priyo Maloti: The Art of Invisible VFX

At FireDrum Studios, we believe that the best visual effects are the ones the audience never notices. Founded in 2015, our family of 20 artists, geeks, and storytellers loves nothing more than solving complex visual puzzles to elevate a narrative. Recently, we had the privilege of providing full-scale post-production support for the feature film Priyo Maloti. This project allowed us to showcase why we are considered a leading studio in the region, blending technical precision with artistic intuition.

Project Objective: Enhancing Cinematic Realism

The production team behind Priyo Maloti came to us with a clear directive: immersion. Feature films require a level of polish where technical flaws or on-set limitations cannot distract from the story. The brief involved extensive environment manipulation, removing safety rigs, and seamlessly integrating actors into new backgrounds. Our goal was to deliver high-fidelity shots that looked indistinguishable from reality.

Content Strategy: A Pipeline for Perfection

Tackling a feature film requires more than just software; it requires a robust pipeline. As a 3D Animation Studio in Dhaka that also specializes in high-end VFX, we approached Priyo Maloti by breaking down the script’s visual needs into "invisible" fixes and "creative" enhancements. Our strategy focused on maintaining color consistency and lighting continuity, ensuring that our set extensions and cleanups matched the director of photography's original vision perfectly.

Technical Execution: From Green Screen to Silver Screen

Our workflow for Priyo Maloti utilized the full spectrum of our toolset, including After Effects, Mocha, Silhouette, and Blender.

Green Screen Compositing and Set Extensions

Transforming a studio set into a living, breathing world requires precise keying and color matching. We utilized After Effects for compositing, carefully extracting actors from green screens while preserving fine details like hair and motion blur. For scenes requiring digital backgrounds, our 3D team utilized Blender to create depth and parallax, ensuring the set extensions felt grounded in 3D space.

Wire Removal and Cleanup

Action sequences often rely on safety wires that must disappear in post. Using Mocha and Silhouette, our artists meticulously painted out wires, rigs, and unwanted production equipment. For difficult shots involving moving camera angles, we employed GeoTracker and PFTrack to lock our paint fixes to the geometry of the scene, ensuring the cleanup remained stable throughout the shot.

Rotoscoping and Titles

To isolate characters for color grading or background adjustments without a green screen, our roto department went frame-by-frame, creating pixel-perfect mattes. We wrapped up the project by designing and animating the film's titles, giving Priyo Maloti a polished, professional opening and closing identity.

Results: Setting the Standard in Dhaka

The final result of Priyo Maloti is a testament to the power of invisible VFX. The wires are gone, the backgrounds are lush, and the audience is left focusing solely on the emotion of the characters. We take immense pride in being a post-production studio in Bangladesh capable of handling the rigorous demands of feature film workflows.

Whether it’s complex simulation or subtle cleanup, FireDrum Studios is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in Dhaka’s creative industry.
